My house has about 150-200’ of gutters. My neighborhood has ALL the trees. Seriously, we have them all. These two things don’t go well together. I hate ladders enough that it is no exaggeration that ladders kept me in college, rather than working construction. My roof is too steep to go up once and walk it. The result of this is my gutters are usually clogged, because I HATE cleaning them.
I finally splurged and picked up a nice Stihl leaf blower, and optional gutter cleaning kit. It comes with three roughly 3-1/2 to 4 foot long tubes, and a u-shaped bend at the end that all link together. My gutters are roughly 12 feet in the air, two tubes is perfect. It had been months since I cleaned them, so they were a congealed soggy mess in there. Even still, it only took maybe 20 minutes to clean them all. My only suggestion is to wear a hat and clothes that you don’t care about, because you will be getting messy. It’s still totally worth it.
I should’ve purchased this five years ago when we bought the house. I highly recommend this for anybody who has gutters low enough down to reach them. It is so much easier, quicker and safer than climbing up there.

Ugh don’t remind me. I hate cleaning the gutters, and I have a gutter-cleaning attachment for my shopvac.

Cleaning gutters manually is so 20th century.

When I cleaned my gutters in the spring it had gotten so clogged it became a nutrient rich environment and tiny plants started growing from the seedlings that had accumulated. Luckily I got them all clean before they did any damage

Great tip! The house I’m about to move into has gutters loaded with leaves. The property owner should take care of this in a perfect world, but they live in another state and we’re the ones who would end up suffering from ice dam damage later, so I’ll probably have to do this myself before the snow flies.

If you get the opportunity, install the gutter-shields that prevent leaves from going into the gutters. I'm quite sure it's something you can install yourself.

My leaves all migrate to the east side of my house due to the prevailing winds. I can pop my second story window and access the mid roof. Just pull the screens and go at it with a hand trowel every couple years. Easy peasy.
The west side gutter only clogs every 5 or so years. I hate cleaning it. It’s more than 30 feet up and no easy way to get a ladder to it since there’s a steep slope to the back.
I usually go to the mid roof then jump up to the top roof like it’s a marine corps obstacle. I figure I’ll die someday trying to clean them out.

My neighbor’s gutters used to be like that. Dozens of little sprouting plants coming out of the gutters. I found it quite humorous too because they have (or had) one of those little “grates” that go over the gutters and supposed to prevent that very thing from happening in the first place.

If that’s a BG55 you should be able to get a vacuum kit for it.

When I was little my dad pulled a sapling out of our gutter. My neighbor planted it in his back yard. As far as I know, it’s still there, growing and healthy.

My eaves are 18’ up. And we only have a gutter on one side, but thanks for reminding me that I need to get out my gigantic ladder and fight with wet congealed decomposed leaves.

Glad I could help!

I used to get little maple saplings every year from neglecting to clean them for so long. That’s how much I hate going on ladders. Never again!

Ooooffff, yeah that’s probably the best way to get your west side. Just be careful!
My roof is a 10-12 pitch, so walking mine wouldn’t be happening.

This method is so easy!

There is a commercially available version of that! Maybe that’s it, it’s been a while since I looked into them. I considered getting one, but I’d still have to go up the ladder six times. Better than before, but still enough to be a detractor for me to do it as often as I need to.

I get WAY too many leaves for that to be a viable option. I bought a used Troy Built 5HP self propelled leaf vacuum this year. Even that has been been a bitch.

Yeah, that’s the one! Very cool, but with my setup I have zero ladders, and it was $50 cheaper. Also, now I have a nice leaf blower for, you know, blowing stupid leaves ... Fuck I hate leaves. People who love fall, are always the ones who don’t have to deal with all the fucking leaves ... Sorry, I’m back now. Anyways, the robot is super cool, just not the one for me.

Gutter guard FTW. I put that on the side of my house that has a tree right next to the gutter. It goes up fairly easy and once its up you are maintenance free.
